Two years ago in the spring, I was at Forest & Flowers Retreat while it was still in transition from what it was before to what it was becoming, when I felt a strong knowing that this place wanted me to grow flowers.
Honestly, it came as a surprise to me but I’ve followed my curiosity since that moment. Like the wild violets and dandelions popping up during that time, I’m starting small but following a big vision. Sometimes I notice how challenging it feels to harness the actions needed for this moment (and not try to fit a 10+ year vision into 2 years or 2 months).
My mantra is to stay curious and fail fast, because I’ve noticed that the faster I fail, the faster I learn… and nature doesn’t have 100% germination either.
What curiosity has led me to in this moment feels like...
Hands in the soil.
Watching the gardens grow from a seed.
Watching the pops of green on the trees.
Buds plumping with colors.
Rose oil on my skin.
Immersing in the water.
And the new life coming in.
It’s noticing…
New offerings landing with ease, in co-creating and not rushing the process.
Biodynamic farming where astrological influences and spirituality meet the soil. How am I just now learning this?
It’s noticing the new flowers I've started. There's so many I've never grown before and each one needs different things. I've been a gardener for many years now, but it feels different this season. I’m learning new languages.
It’s noticing the gratitude I feel for writing this in my home office, in the home we built, with patience for the pieces we have left to complete.
It’s noticing my desire for a strong spine and soft heart.
Waves of emotions and blessings from all the changing tides.
It’s noticing the beautiful experience of being guided by an inner knowing. Messy, confusing, quiet, and awkward… but beautiful.
Planting more strawberries. This is the year I stopped planting things in isolation. A garden community modeled after the forest. More integration. More alchemy. New strawberries anchor at the roots of the blueberry bushes. Onions extend upward around the brassicas. When the soil warms I’ll put beans amidst the potatoes and peppers lining the sweet potatoes. It seems most days there’s something new to plant in the ground. I’m still wondering where the asparagus would like to go when those roots arrive. I’m thinking asparagus, strawberries, and blueberries could be the ultimate three for reciprocity.
Another wildflower bed at Forest & Flowers Retreat. The eager seeds start to pop up in green within the week. Magic.
Daffodils and tulips. A message from May… Plant more next year. Always plant more than you think you should.
"Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” - Rumi
May you follow curiosity too, as it guides you on.
